Senate Briefs – Oct 21

    New scholarships and bursaries

    Dawne Clarke, chair of the St. Thomas University admissions and academic standing committee, moved a motion to approve the Dalton Camp Scholarship. Kim Fenwick, vice-president academic and research and chair of the Dalton Camp board, said this scholarship was approved by the Dalton Camp board and will utilize available funds from the Dalton Camp endowment. The motion was approved by Senate.

    Clarke also moved two motions to approve the Christine Cornell Memorial Scholarship and the Alicia Paul Memorial Bursary. Both motions were approved.

    New history courses

    Dawne Clarke, chair of the St. Thomas University curriculum committee, moved a motion to approve the course History 3603: Disney and World History. The motion was approved by Senate.

    Clarke also moved a motion to approve the course History 3703: Symbols of Canada: Culture, Conflict, and Commodification. The motion was approved.

    Course release award

    Peter Toner, chair of the St. Thomas University Senate research committee, moved a motion to approve the creation of the STU research committee course release award. The motion was approved by Senate.

    Student committee members

    Kim Fenwick, chair of the St. Thomas University Senate nominating committee, moved a motion to reappoint Leanne Hudson as a student representative on the Senate committee on reconciliation for a one-year term effective immediately and concluding on April 30, 2022. The motion was approved by Senate.

    Fenwick moved a second motion to appoint Rylee Hopkins as a student representative on the Senate student academic grievance committee for a one-year term effective immediately and concluding on April 30, 2022. The motion was approved.
