The worst places to study at STU

jdhJames Dunns Hall isn’t always your best choice for getting some studying done. If you are able to find a seat between 12p.m. – 4p.m. you are lucky. JDH is very popular, often crowded and loud. Not to mention, it can be kind of difficult to find a plug in for your laptop. Having Tim Hortons and Subway right in front might be considered an asset, but it can actually lead to frequent distractions from getting homework or studying done. Unless you’re the type of person who likes noisy spaces for studying JDH is the worst place for you.

Edmund Casey Hall‘s benches are perfect for doing some quick readings between classes and for catching up with friends, but for long-term studying they can be a pain. They are not comfortable at all (I assure you your back and bum will hurt by the end of your study session) and it can get quite cold since people are always opening the door besides the benches. I suggest you take your studies elsewhere.

ocThe OC lounge is a very social space, which can make studying a problem. Students are having constant and loud conversations here. They even bring their video games or board games to play (and scream). Also, events for off-campus students are usually happening here. Which means you may have to move all your stuff to a different place while in the middle of studying. Also, there’s always that group in the back laughing like no one else is there. And that one guy watching Netflix without earphones (why… ?).dorm

If you’re considering being successful in college, rather than just settling for Cs, a
bed is not a great place to study. Your dorm will lead to your studying downfall. Inevitably, in your sleep-deprived state, you will curl up, declare you are only going to nap for 20 minutes, set your phone alarm and close your eyes. Two hours later you will wake up (or maybe the next day) to find that you lost valuable study time.

Just like JDH the SUB is a bit of a zoo to study unless you arrive first thing in the morning or late at night. Granted there is ample seating and access to delicious food, the SUB is best to be avoided when you need to get work done.
