Women’s hockey remains unbeaten

The St. Thomas University Tommies women’s hockey team is still undefeated in Atlantic University Sport conference play.
The Tommies (4-0) blanked the Mount Allison University Mounties 6-0 Sunday at home for their second straight shutout after beating the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers 3-0 Friday on the road.
Lauren Legault struck first seven minutes into the first period before Alisha Gilbert shot low in the slot to beat MtA starter Keri Martin three minutes later.
Rachel Michielin knocked in a rebound at 13:19 in the opening frame to put the Tommies up 3-0.
Emily Oleksuk then got a shot from the hashmarks past Martin at 14:29 in the middle stanza.
Lauren Henman scored 40 seconds into the third and again at 2:59 to seal the Mounties’ fate.
Taylor Cook was lights-out in the Tommies net with her 26-save performance, while Martin and Lindsay Wray split the duties in net for MtA, combining for 39 saves out of 45 shots.

Tommies tame Panthers on the road

Henman led the Tommies’ attack with two points Friday on the other side of the Confederation Bridge.
Henman netted the second goal for STU at 10:09 in the second before she and captain Kelty Apperson provided helpers on the third STU marker from Paige Jackson three minutes later.
Eliza Snider, Teah Anderson, Oleksuk and Jessica McCann also notched assists for STU.
It was Legault who opened the scoring for the Tommies at 2:32 in the opening frame.
STU netminder Abby Clarke blocked 17 shots for the .
Panthers goalie Marie-Soleil Deschenes turned aside 31 out of 34 shots in the defeat.
The Tommies’ next games are Oct. 28 against the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues and Oct. 29 versus the Dalhousie University Tigers. Puck drops are at 7 p.m. both nights.
STU’s next home contests include a rematch against Dalhousie on Nov. 5 at 3 p.m., along with the next meeting between the Tommies and Panthers at 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at Grant-Harvey Centre.
