The University Women’s Centre

Emily O’Donnell-Shaw, chair of the University Women’s Centre attended the St. Thomas University Students’ Union meeting on Oct. 17 to share information about the University Women’s Centre located in room 129 of the University of New Brunswick Students’ Union Building. The centre is open to both STU and UNB students. They offer several resources for students, including information on safe sex, harm reduction and abortion access. The centre also provides menstrual products, condoms and other hygiene products. O’Donnell-Shaw said the centre is slowly getting back to hosting events for this year.

Development of resume program

St. Thomas University Students’ Union president Tyler MaGee had a meeting with the STU experiential learning office.

They’re developing a program to help students work on their resumes. MaGee said the program will offer a checklist of skills to help students build their resumes.

They said these can be skills acquired by work experience, classwork or volunteer experience. More information about the program will be released when it’s finished being developed.

Planning of Indigenous film festival on campus

St. Thomas University Students’ Union president Tyler MaGee had a meeting with the STU Senate Reconciliation Committee about planning an Indigenous film festival. They said one has been done in the past and they’re planning on bringing it back. The potential date would be in January, but due to COVID-19 and the uncertainty of the winter semester, a date is not confirmed yet.

St. Thomas Student Reconciliation Committee suggestion box

The St. Thomas Student Reconciliation Committee will soon have a suggestion box pinned to the billboard next to the STU help desk. St. Thomas University Students’ Union president Tyler MaGee said students can leave suggestions on what they would like the committee to work on. Stevie DeMerchant, the STUSU Indigenous student representative, said they’re hoping to address the suggestions on their social media pages.

Latin America Student Association ratified

St. Thomas University Students’ Union vice-president administration Alex Nguyen said the Governance Committee ratified the Latin America Student Association.

St. Thomas Student Reconciliation Committee student-led book club

St. Thomas University Students’ Union Indigenous student representative Stevie DeMerchant said the committee is planning a student-led book club. They’ll be starting with 21 Things you may not know about the Indian act.

By-law Amendment

The St. Thomas University Indigenous Student Reconciliation Committee name was changed to the St. Thomas Student Reconciliation Committee.

Constitution Amendment

The Rigby Hall and the Chatham Hall representative positions of the student representative councils were removed since those residences are no longer part of campus.
