    Byelection

    Nominations for the STUSU fall byelection opened on Friday, Oct. 7. A full list of
    positions open for nominations can be found on STUSU’s Facebook page.
    Nomination period ended on Oct 13. Campaigns started Saturday, Oct. 15 and finish
    on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 11:59 p.m. Voting days will start on Thursday, Oct. 20 and
    will end at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21. Successful candidates will be announced on Oct. 21.

    Sexual assault advocate on campus

    The University of New Brunswick has received funding to have a sexual assault advocate on its campus, allowing STU students to have access to the advocate as well. Vice-president student life Brianna Matchett said she met with Brock Richardson, ‎director of student services and residence life, discussing how to challenge rape culture on campus and how to make the advocate’s position sustainable for students.

    Harrington House VP external resigns

    The vice-president external of Harrington Hall has resigned. House representative Autumn Lawrence said a byelection has begun and expects a new representative will be elected by Oct. 26.

    Peer support centre to be implemented

    Plans for a peer support centre on STU’s campus are in the works. Matchett said once a space in determined and renovated for the centre, training for second and third-year students who are interested will begin by March 2017. The centre is set to open for business in Sept. 2017, a day after Welcome Week ends.

    Academic assistance

    Moot court will receive $1,600 from the $4,500 academic assistance line. This would cover roughly $100 per student for travel and registration expenses. The academic assistance line is available to any student or group of students who need funding for scholastic travels and activities.
