A compilation of the Bloc’s post-secondary promises

OTTAWA (CUP) — Post-secondary announcements from the Bloc Québécois will be tracked here throughout the campaign.

Post-secondary funding and tuition fees

In their 2011 Policy Statement, the Bloc indicated they support increased post-secondary education transfers. More specifically, in their platform, the Bloc noted they will continue to ask that the federal government restore social and education transfers to Quebec as long as fiscal imbalance remains an issue.

Additionally, the Bloc explained they will continue to defend Quebec’s choice to have its own policies on post-secondary education and tuition fees. The Bloc also asks that Ottawa transfer the money saved because of Quebecois students in the form of federal credits on tuition fees to the Quebec government.

Financial assistance

In their platform, the Bloc state they will continue to ask that grants for post-doctoral students be tax-free.

Research and innovation

The Bloc supports the promotion and development of innovation and proposes that tax credits on research and innovation be reimbursable on a trimestral basis.

The Bloc also proposes to help economic stimulation in Quebec by creating programs that promote and support sustainable development, particularly through research and development programs in new technology.
