Letter from the Editor

It’s hard to figure out what to say to you in the beginning when everyone, including me, is new. I’m still going to try though. My name is Ian Leblanc, the incoming editor-in-chief of The Aquinian.

Student publications are exceptional in the way the staff changes and goes through a complete overhaul every year. It is truly a student paper run by students for students.

As journalists our jobs are to observe, study and report in the name of truth. It’s our purpose. It’s what we do and we do it with pride. This is what you can expect from us.

As a student paper our mandate is to act as a connection between students, the university and Fredericton.

Like any publication, we do what we can to write stories that interest the public when times are crazy and even when things tend to be quieter.

I’m pleased with my colleagues on the paper. They have some good ideas and will be rolling them out for you this year. This paper is independent of the university and will do whatever it can to present issues in a fair and equal light. We also provide an opportunity for students to have a voice.

Everything that we include in this paper is for you and we want to hear your opinions. As the person who oversees the opinion and editorial section, I encourage anyone with positive or negative feedback to write a letter-to-the-editor.

I was the production editor last year so a lot of what you see in the paper was created by me. Needless to say, I like it. We have gone back to a traditional newspaper front page as opposed to last year’s magazine-style cover.

When I was preparing for this job, I went back through years of Aquinian designs before I decided what I liked. I hope you enjoy this style as much as I do. We will continue to fine-tune it during the coming months.

We will have a functioning website where you can find all the same content and more. Please feel free to leave comments here and let us know what you think.

I wish you the best of luck with your classes and hope we will become your source to find out what’s happening on campus and in Fredericton. I hope to hear from you guys soon.
