STU campus in brief

    Tentative agreement reached

St. Thomas faculty and administration reached a tentative agreement on Dec. 20, said communication officer Jeffery Carleton.

The agreement will be brought to the Board of Governors for ratification and will be made public after that.

Carleton refused to answer questions about when the agreement will be taken to the board, what the agreement says or if he thinks it will cause any issues.

Both full-time and part-time faculty contracts expired on July 1, 2013.

    STUSU president out of office

St. Thomas University’s Student Union president Elizabeth Murphy will be out of office due to illness.

Emily Sheen, vice-president administration, will be taking over Murphy’s duties until she returns. Murphy expects to be back in a couple of weeks.

    Bylaw changes

STUSU voted to change their bylaws concerning elections.

Candidates must submit any websites or social media links to the STUSU if they choose to campaign online. There was also a clause added that says executive roles have the responsibility to orientate their successor.

There was also a clarification as to how many posters can go in each building on campus and a change to online voting hours.

    Losing space in JDH

The Clubs and Societies Fair experienced an unexpected issue at the event on Jan. 10.

Emily Sheen, vice president administration, said since Subway opened in JDH there’s less room for events going on in the public space.

“It became very apparent that the recent renovations in JDH make that space very difficult to use for this sort of function,” Sheen said at the Jan. 16 STUSU meeting.

She said some societies were even kicked out of some tables by Subway.

Sheen said this will be something the vice president administration will have to prepare for next year.

    “Sucks to be them.”
