STU Arts Spotlight: Robbie Lynn

(Sherry Han/The AQ)

Robbie Lynn, a third-year St.Thomas University student majoring in English with a concentration in drama, is a talented STU theatre actor. Lynn was born in Ottawa and has lived in Fredericton since he was six years old. He has been involved in theatre since Grade 7. Singing first stimulated his interest in theatre. As time went on, he started digging into the acting side. Lynn thinks acting can express various creative ideas through dialogue that sometimes cannot be articulated with music. For Lynn, the theatre is a canvas, a broadening experience that lets people break out of everyday routine. On the stage, every show and every character are different, and each one allows a person to get out of the character of their daily life. Lynn wants to get more people to not only come and watch theatre but also get involved in it. Even if one is not a show person (but who doesn’t like storytelling?), he thinks it’s a great feeling to see people in a community participating in theatre, whether as an audience member or on the stage. In his free time, Lynn likes to watch movies. Captain Fantastic is one of the movies he’s looking forward to watching, not only because Viggo Mortensen will be acting in it, but also because the story of this movie has profound ideas about family and cultural norms. For his future career, Lynn doesn’t yet have a clear direction. He has many career interests other than the theatre. Right now, however, he will keep concentrating on acting, take it as seriously as he can, and keep doing his best as long as opportunities are being offered to him.
