5 winter essentials

Wool Socks
Heat escapes through our feet, so make sure yours are safe and snug with a warm pair of wool socks. Plus, most are functional as well as fashionable; wool socks just add something essential to that cozy winter look, whether you’re inside or outside.

Hats/Beanies
There’s nothing worse than being out in the cold and having exposed ears. A warm toque is crucial for surviving Canadian winters and, in my experience, works wonders. My personal favourite are Roots hats – a little on the pricier side, but they have a wide selection with nice designs and are very warm, and they last for ages. I’d be lost without mine.

Scarves
I can’t count the amount of times where I’ve been caught without a scarf on a day where the wind is bitingly cold and hated myself for it. Colourful scarves are a staple in a lot of people’s wardrobes, and for good reason – they can add a nice extra detail to your outfit while keeping you warm at the same time. Try to choose long, thick scarves that will keep you warm. Try H&M for regular priced options.

Gloves/Mittens
Hands are usually the biggest casualty when it comes to cold weather. If you find mittens too bulky, wool gloves can keep your hands warm while not sacrificing your dexterity. You can also find special “texting” gloves if you’re addicted to your smartphone like me and need to use it on the go.

Sweaters
Probably my favourite part about winter is getting to wear cute oversized sweaters every day. Obviously you can’t stay bundled up in your jacket when you’re hanging out inside, so a warm wool sweater is the perfect addition to a day spent curled up on the couch watching Netflix with a warm drink. American Eagle has many options for men and women. Try using a buttoned shirt underneath the sweater for a chic touch. This is a cool idea for both men and women.
