Mark Livingstone is hoping to be a fresh face on the STU students’ union when this week’s general elections are finished.
Running for SU president, Livingstone said he has ideas and skills he wants to bring to the table.
“I feel as though if I come in as a new person, with a level head on my shoulders and no biases, I can make the organization work a little smoother and in the better interest of students,” said Livingstone, who hails from Riverview N.B.
The third-year Economics student has goals for the union.
“I would like to improve communication with the union and with the students,” he said. “Create a good two-way dialogue.”
“I know that the union does a lot of external lobbying, which is very important. But I also feel as though there are issues on campus, such as parking,” he said. “Things that are more attainable.”
Livingstone finished high school a year early due to skipping Grade 5, and said he has appreciated attending such a tight-knit school.
His father went to STU too.
“I certainly have been very happy here. STU has a great small school community,” he said.
The Rigby Hall resident has been on the Rigby house committee for three years now, and said he wants to continue his involvement in university life next year.
“I want the union to be a public body,” he said. “Communicative, transparent and accessible. A team students feel they can approach.”
