Women’s basketball team dominates Holland College
The St. Thomas University women’s basketball team ended their regular season play for this semester with a record of 5-0 after two wins against the Holland College Hurricanes. On Nov. 20, the Tommies travelled to Prince Edward Island to compete in the double header.
In the first game, the Tommies came out with strong full court pressure and got an early lead. After the first half, the Tommies led by 20 points over the Hurricanes, with a score of 36-16.
In the second half, STU was complacent and Holland College cut the lead to 12 points. Both teams battled in the fourth quarter but STU held on and beat Holland College 64-42.
Top scorers from STU were Renee LeBlanc with 15 and Olivia Dobbelstyn with 13.
The next day, the Tommies came back with a strong defensive effort. A combination of full court pressure and defensive discipline allowed STU to shut out Holland College in the first quarter 23-0. The Tommies continued their fierce play and led the Hurricanes 41-12 at half. STU did not back down in the second half and won the game by a score of 76-35. Top scorers for the Tommies were Ashley Bawn and Renee LeBlanc with 14. Jillian Lamoreau and Kathleen McCann both chipped in with 12.
Co-captain Jillian Lamoreau was pleased with the way the team played together.
