Four St. Thomas University records were broken at the Tommies track and field team’s first indoor meet of the season Saturday at base Gagetown.
Shannon Morris is now the record holder in the women’s weight throw after posting a distance of 11.50 metres.
Sarah Hickman set a new threshold in the 200-metre dash with a time of 29.05, while Emily Authier cleared a height of 1.40 metres and Connor Coelho reached 1.30 metres in the high jump.
In the women’s weight throw, the old record was smashed four times by Morris out of six total throws and once each by Stephanie Gates and Shannon Blackmore.
In the women’s 300-metre hurdle event, Chelsey Hall had to run additional times due to misplaced starting blocks.
In the high jump, Authier had to clear a height to set the record, but she took multiple jumps, and her score of 1.40 metres would have earned her points at the last Atlantic University Sport championship meet.
Olivia Ricketts of STU was also the junior shot put champion with a distance of 8.19 metres, while Katherine Conran of STU placed second with a throw of 7.64 metres.
Morris also took part in the shot put competition and came in second in the senior bracket with 9.26 metres.
With a throw of 10.80 metres, Cowan Donovan finished third in the junior category of the men’s shot put.
In the senior women’s weight throw, STU swept the leaderboard with Morris posting a distance of 11.50 metres, Gates at 10.64 and Anisha Romany recording 8.18. Blackmore earned bronze in the junior category with a 10.86-metre throw.
For runners, Ryan Terry of the Tommies was second in the junior 1,000-metre race with a time of 2:49.06.
The Tommies’ next track and field meet is set for Saturday, Dec. 17, with the Universite de Moncton Invitational.
