STU students used online voting for the first time this week for the STUSU by-election.
Jonathan Munn and Santiago Chavez were voted in as members at-large. Off campus representatives are Sam Titus and Mitchell Syvret-Caplin. First year liaisons are Stefen A. Savoy and Sebastian O’Brien. The Aquinian Board of Director’s member at-large is Emma Chapple; first year representative is Nathan DeLong; second year is Alex Corbett; and fourth year is Karo Comeau.
The voter turnout was 22.8 per cent.
President Elizabeth Murphy said the online voting went well for the first run.
“We will be debriefing so as to make improvements. Things went fairly smoothly though.”
The STUSU received student feedback from two students. One of which enjoyed the online voting and the other with a complaint that is being taken care of.
STUSU executive met today to handle the complaint. A student thinks Windsor street residents should be able to vote for off-campus students. This classification is not made clear in STUSU’s bylaws. No decision has been made but Murphy said they are bringing it to the governance committee.
“We can’t just change bylaws. They must be ratified at council.”
More information and deliberation about the voting turnout will be discussed at council Thursday evening.
