Applications for Student Union Chair

Applications went out on Tuesday for the new (St. Thomas University Student Union) Chair and will be closed sometime next week. Any student interested can apply.
The emergency bursaries coordinator also resigned two weeks ago. The student union hasn’t decided to call for applications yet because of questions regarding the referendum that is enacting that position and budgeting. However, Ben Graham, V.P. Admin for the union said Emergency Bursary applications will still be accepted and bursaries will still be granted. There will not be any delay in service.

Moot Court applies for travel money
The Moot Court class has applied for academic assistance looking to travel to various competitions in November. St. Thomas University is the only undergraduate university in Canada to have a Moot Court program. The program needs $100 per student for travel expenses. Last year they had 10 students and received $1,000. This year they requested $1,400 as they have 14 students. The motion to grant $1,400 was approved unanimously.

Changes to STU health plan
As of Sept. 1 the student health plan has gone under major increases to coverage.
Some of the changes are co-pay has gone down from $20 last year to $5 and dental coverage has gone up to 100 per cent for preventative and 80 per cent for restorative.
Ambulance fees are still waved, and message physiotherapy are now covered for $50 a visit and up to $250 a year.
The deadline to opt out is Oct.17. Students can do so through studentbenefits.ca.
