STU President Dennis Cochrane will help David Alward’s Progressive Conservatives transition into governing the province.
Cochrane was named, along with four others, to the premier-elect’s transition team last Thursday.
According to a PC press release, the transition team will will work with Alward “until the day of the swearing-in of the new government.” Alward is expected to be sworn in as New Brunswick’s 32nd premier on Oct. 12.
The release also says that the transition team is “providing their services on a voluntary basis.”

Cochrane has been interim president at STU since January of this year. His term expires on July 1, 2011.
The STU president is joined on the team by Conservative Senator Rose-May Poirier, a former New Brunswick MLA, Ross McKean, who served as Deputy Chief of Staff to former premier Bernard Lord, Gordon Porter, former chair of the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission and Hermel Vienneau, a member of Lord’s transition team in 1999.
