Third-year St.Thomas University student, Book Sadprasid, is a previous photo editor of The Aquinian and freelancer for STU communications office. Sadprasid is from Thailand and is majoring in communications and journalism.
Seven years ago, when Sadprasid was twelve, she got her first DSLR camera. It’s the first time she had a chance to get involved with photography. She started to look into photographic theories and photo editing, like Photoshop.
“I have always been drawn to images. Once I was able to create them myself, the feeling was pretty amazing,“ Sadprasid said.
In her spare time, she always looks at the pictures taken by other professional photographers, like Sarah Kierstead, a Fredericton-based photographer, and Oat Chaiyasith, a Thai photographer.
Sadprasid thinks photos are important because they are a fascinating storytelling tool. They show more than words can say.
“I love technology and art, and photography is a mix of both. It’s a very different from another form of art. You can never really create the same photo twice. It’s exciting,” Sadprasid said.
Also, she encourages more people to get involved in photography, because it allows anyone to be an artist. There are many camera techniques and skills to learn, but most of the time it’s as simple as what you think looks good.
“Everyone should at least once grab a camera and try to create something,” Sadprasid said.
Sadprasid said she can’t decide her future right now, because life is full of changes, but photography will always be her thing, whether it’s a hobby or a job.
