Professor Brian Carty died on Tuesday morning from injuries he sustained after colliding with a moose over the weekend.
Carty was traveling back to Fredericton from Sackville when his car hit a moose on the highway near Memramcook.
The impact was mostly on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Carty was taken to the intensive care unit in the Moncton Hospital.
His partner Anne Charlebois was also in the car but was not seriously injured.
“He was a friendly and uplifting presence on our campus whether you worked with him closely or only occasionally. He had an infectious, positive personality and always brightened the day of those he came into contact with—he will be greatly missed by everyone at STU and by many alumni,” university president Dawn Russell said in a statement.
Carty was an alumnus of St. Thomas, and received his master’s in social work from Carleton. He started teaching at STU in 2003.
Plans for a funeral/memorial service are being finalized by the family.
