Sept. 25 STUSU Briefs

STUSU is helping to organize a flash mob for visitors to STU’s Alumni Weekend festivities. A surprise dance performance for alumni and friends of the school is being prepared by fine arts professor Don Sadoway. They are looking for as many people as possible to dance Friday, Oct. 3, at 5:45 pm. Experience is a benefit but all interested parties are asked to contact professor Sadoway, at [email protected], as soon as possible to take part.

STUSU VP of Education Sam Titus announced that STU campus advance polling saw about 480 votes submitted. That is roughly one quarter of the university population, and the highest turnout rate across all New Brunswick campuses. Titus said it was important to uphold candidates’ campaign promises, something he will do through lobbying with the New Brunswick Student Alliance. Those promises include the majority-winning Liberal promise to make parental income no longer a factor in student loan assessments, and the Green Party offering to increase the timely completion benefit for students. Anyone with feedback on the campus polling initiative should contact Titus, who will liaise with Elections New Brunswick, at [email protected].

Student-actors are still needed for the making of a promotional video for STU athletics. Because of a booking issue, the filming will be postponed. The date is to be determined. The video will see students train and try out for the role of mascot Tommy the Tomcat. Those interested in auditioning for the role of Tommy the Tomcat should contact Eric Moffat, marketing and events coordinator for STU athletics, at emoffatt@stu.ca.
