Sappyfest is a small independent music festival which takes place annually in Sackville. The festival was founded in 2006. Back then the festival’s debut got the attention of 250 music lovers. Since then, the festival has received a ton of positive feedback and a growing fanbase.
The festival’s eighth year was no exception and proved to be a righteous time for all who attended. However, the festival was not a financial success despite the good turnout and various acts like Joel Plaskett Emergency, Doldrums and Chain and the Gain.
The festival organizers said Sappyfest is $15,000 in debt. The organizers also stated the amount of debt was primarily due to their aversion to corporate sponsorship.
With these financial difficulties, festival goers and organizers alike feared for the worst, the demise of Sappyfest. Fortunately, team Sappy came up with a plan. Its name is Sappy Forever, and is a 160 page table book.
The book comes with a $100 price tag and is jammed with a bunch of photos, essays, and other memories from SappyFests of the past. Also, each person who purchases a book is invited to send in a photo of themselves at SappyFest to be put in a section.
The fundraiser’s final goal is $25,000 which has to be reached by Sept. 15 of this year. The additional $10,000 added to goal will go towards the production and publication of SappyForever.
In less than a month, the Sappy rescue mission has raked in over $22,000 and counting. The festival is not only getting a helping-hand from its fans, but also local brewery Picaroons. The popular beer creators offered to match every new contribution once the fundraiser hit its $20 000 mark.
Thanks to a slew of community support, it’s looking like SappyFest will live to see the summer of 2014.
