Last weekend at the Capital, Oh No, Theodore! hit a high point in their short career.
“The show was fucking huge,” says Kyle Albright, the band’s guitarist. “The feeling in there was unbelievable.”
The Fredericton band, made up with some STU alumni and students, has been on a roll lately. In the last few months they’ve recorded and released their self-titled debut, filled Fredericton venues and played various concerts around the Maritimes.
On Friday the band will take the Barracks stage at Harvest Jazz and Blues for CBC’s Galaxie Rising Star event. The show is a battle of the bands style with the winner netting $2,000 and a spot alongside Ross Neilsen and the Sufferin’ Bastards and Hill Country Revue on Saturday.
They feel like they’re riding some serious momentum heading in to the competition.
“[Last week] was the biggest show we’ve ever had,” says Albright.
He says the last few months have been pretty busy, and it doesn’t look like things are letting up any time soon.
“We’re booked up for most of September and lots of October.” They have shows coming up with Canadian indie acts
Yukon Blonde, and the Wooden Sky.
Right now they’re primarily focused on the Galaxie prize which they would put towards a new tour van. Their first tour is tentatively scheduled for January and February.
They aren’t planning on getting extravagent for the show, they just want to give off the strongest impression they can.
“We’re just going to go in with the best attitude and throw down as hard as we can.”
