NBCCD fashion show hits runway in April

New Brunswick College of Craft and Design is ending the school year in style with its 18th annual fashion show on April 16 at the Fredericton Convention Centre.

This year’s show is called Quintessential and was organized by five graduating students and a coordinating instructor.

“Myself and the graduating fashion design studio of 2016 planned and organized the entire fashion show from September on,” said Danielle Elliott, a graduating fashion design student at NBCCD in downtown Fredericton.

Students have worked hard throughout the school year to prepare for the show.

“It involved getting sponsorships from different companies and businesses across Fredericton, designing tickets and posters, choosing the venue and making floor plans, deciding what music to play and what lighting we wanted. But the most important aspect involved designing our very own individual collections,” said Elliott.

The fashion show will feature five collections from graduating students and several collections from alumni. Each designer will have six designs per collection and each alumni will have five designs per collection.

Fourth-year St. Thomas University student Alexandra Van Rijn will model Elliott’s collection in this year’s show.

“This will be my first time walking in the show and I am so honoured to be showcasing Danielle’s beautiful designs,” said Van Rijn. “The corset from Danielle’s line is absolutely stunning. It has so many fine details, it’s definitely my favourite piece that I’ll be wearing.

The show will open with the alumnis’ collections and the first year challenge. Then, there will be a brief intermission period. Afterward, the grad student’s collections will be modelled.

Tickets are $15 and available for purchase at Read’s or $20 at the door.

“It will be such an overwhelming and emotional experience for me. I’ve always wanted a career in the fashion industry and being able to make my inspiration and designs come to life is more than I could’ve ever imagined,” said Elliot.
