The women’s Tommies basketball team dominated the Nova Scotia Agricultural College Rams en route to a 91-22 victory.
Leading 48-6 at half time, STU’s red hot defense forced the opposing team to commit 49 turnovers in the game.
Renee Leblanc led the team, scoring 18 points, while going four for six at the three point line. Kathleen McCann led the team in rebounds pulling down seven boards and Ashley Bawn was also a force on the court with eight assists and 14 points of her own.
The Tommies young roster also proved effective with the rookies contributing a combined 36 points throughout the game. First-year player Brittany Gillis led the rookie scoring with 13 points; Alana Ransom led NSAC in scoring with six points. NSAC struggled with their shooting as STU held them to only 23 per cent shooting in the game.
On Sunday the women traveled to Saint John where they took on the University of New Brunswick Saint John Sea Wolves. The final score of the game was 81-48 with third-year player Kathleen McCann breaking out for a season high 20 points in the win. Their record is now 5-0 to start the year.

The men’s Tommies basketball team had a very similar game against the NSAC Rams as the women did, winning 94-39 in dominant fashion.
They controlled from the jump ball to the final whistle, with everyone on the team contributing to the win in some way.
Richie Wilkins led the team, scoring 20, while Stefan Bielecki had another solid game adding 16 points and four rebounds. MacKenzie Washburn and Brent Kingston also contributed with strong performances.
With one of the strongest first halves in a long time, the Tommies were up 59-15 and commanded the second half en route to the victory. After coming off a tough loss to the Holland College last weekend, the team showed lots of resiliency as they responded with their best effort of the year against the Rams.
On Sunday the men also travelled down to Saint John were they took on the Sea wolves. The Tommies dominated from the get-go winning 113-40. The win moved their record to 4-1.
