Justin Marshall’s favourite ice cream flavour is cotton candy. He says his father is his hero. But this first year STU student is passionate about many other things.
Marshall is running for vice president administration in this year’s STUSU elections, a position which focuses mainly on the union’s budget.
“Basically, I want to be more financially liable,” he said. “I think finances are the most important thing in the union. We need to show students where we are spending their money.”
Marshall is currently First-Year Liaison, and as vice president administration, he said he’d push for more transparency.
“We need to make the budget open to all students. I would like to write monthly reports to be posted on the STUSU website and in the Aquinian,” he said. “This is to show students where their money is being spent, and why.”
Marshall would like to increase the academic assistance line, a source of money for students who need a bit of financial help to pursue academic endeavours.
However, he believes that the union needs to be in control of their spending at all times.
“I would like to stop the spending of the surplus,” he said. “Sit down, and discuss a five-year plan that works, but at the same time include student input.”
Marshall, who was his high school’s student body president, said he would like to continue his passion of student government.
“I know I have only been on the union for a year, but I truly believe I am ready for this position,” he said.
