Hannah Lagacy, a 22-year-old University of New Brunswick student is training for this year’s New Brunswick Bodybuilding: Figure, Bikini and Physique Championship.
Lagacy started competing last year, having only one show in her career so far. She feels hopeful for the upcoming competition.
“(It) was an amazing experience for me, and I did not win, but each year you push to do your best and hope for the best,” said Lagacy.
“This is a sport, like any other athlete who works hard before a big game against another team,” said Lagacy. “You train for x-amount of weeks/months to attain the goal to do the best you can…to see how much change you can accomplish and to feel on top of the world knowing you did he best you could to get where you are.”
The biggest payoff for Lagacy is to present her hard work, to get done up for one day after hours of hard work. The feeling is unlike any other.
For Lagacy, the sport is not just a modeling exhibiton, it’s more heavily revolved around physical training, eating right and maintaining a physically toned body.
Despite the competiveness of the sport, she is hopeful to win this year.
She has been preparing for these years competitions through rigorous training and dieting to create a desired form, to win the event.
Lagacy got into modelling through friends who were already involved in it.
“One day I was able to sit down with my friend and her coach, and hear about all the things that comes along with training for a competition, and it got me more interested,” said Lagacy. “[The] coach gym more, then eventu-ally pushed for a bigger goal and set it [up] to step on stage.”
Lagacy now has a trainer who designs her workouts and meal plans to prepare for the upcoming tournament.
“The least I would have to say that I don’t like about the sport,” said Lagacy, “would be when you have to cut out your carbs,” despite her strict diet.
