A new school year has begun, and we still have not gotten our invitations to Hogwarts’ School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. If you’re looking for an escape from your dreary Muggle life, Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner are coming to the Fredericton Playhouse this September to perform all seven Harry Potter books in a parody called Potted Potter.
The show is 70-minutes long and every character throughout the seven novels will be played out by the two actors.
Clarkson and Turner are two mega-fans of the Harry Potter series, but even if you don’t know Sirius from Snape, you can still have lots of laughs and fun.
The show is appropriate for people of all ages, so you don’t have to worry about being emotionally destroyed by Dobby’s death all over again.
Producer of Potted Potter Corey Ross said, “The New York times described it as Robin Williams meets Monty Python, we advertise the show as being good for age five to Dumbledore.”
Whether you’re old or young, the beautiful thing about the universe of Harry Potter is that it caters to all audiences.
Clarkson and Turner have managed to squeeze this massive, fantastical universe we all grew up with in just seventy minutes.
“I was surprised by the wide variety of different ages at the first show. It is definitely drawing university students, I think because they grew up with the series and are still huge fans to this day,” said Ross.
There will also be a live game of Quidditch between the audience and the performers, so if you manage to catch the golden snitch then you’ll finally have the bragging rights over all your friends. And if you want to see a live fire-breathing dragon, now’s your chance.
The play has been well received around the world and nominated for numerous awards such as the Laurence Olivier award.
Clarkson and Turner started as young actors who built an entire show on their own and are now travelling all over the world with Potted Potter.
Potted Potter is showing on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. as well as Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Fredericton Playhouse. ‘A’ Seating is $88.91, ‘B’ Seating is $62.83, and ‘C’ seating is $36.74.
Ross said theatre or drama students may be able to meet Clarkson and Turner after the show for some questions.
“If there’s a group that’s interested in that, we may be able to arrange it.”
