It is with great sadness that Regent Mall should announce the death of Garage shortly after the holiday season. The death came as a great surprise to both mall goers and mall employees alike. Emily Mcphee, a shopper, lamented that now, if she wants to hear loud music in Fredericton, she has to go to Klub Khrome.
Garage, a trendy casual clothing store for women in their teens to early twenties, has touched the closets of many. Though Garage may live on in other cities, to be sure, girls in Fredericton will feel a void in their mall during future shopping trips.
Garage is originally from Montreal and first opened in 1975. In 2008, the first stores began popping up in the United States. A few years later, the retail store opened in Dubai in 2010 and another in Qatar. Garage is the child of proud parent company Groupe Dynamite, and the Regent Mall store is survived by the sexier and more adult sister store, Dynamite.
Garage has a special place in the hearts of many, from their first pair of grown-up jeans to the dress that remains a staple in their wardrobe.
For those who wish, remembrances can be made by shopping at other Groupe Dynamite stores.
Do not stand by my store and weep,
It’s not that bad—my clothes were cheap.
I am a hundred dollars spent.
I am the trends that came and went.
I am a chain store like them all,
But no more at the Regent Mall.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of opening your closet door.
I am the jeans placed in your drawer.
Do not stand by my store and cry;
Go give another store a try.
