Halloween is a time of fun and frights, but some people don’t like the frights that come with the occasion. If you don’t like scares, have trouble getting into the spirit, or just want to try something new this weekend, here’s a list of events for your non-scary Halloween pleasure.
Apple-Picking
Apples are in full bloom during autumn, and what better way to spend an afternoon than in an orchard? Everett’s Family Orchard offers a variety of apples for you to handpick for about one dollar per pound (Everett family asks that you bring cash). While it does require some transportation, the orchard includes a horse stable, different apple products and syrups, and a beautiful view of the St. John River.
Where: 34 Everett Lane, Island View (just west of Fredericton)
When: Open Monday to Sunday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Trick or Eat
Trick or Eat is a fundraising event where people go door-to-door collecting spare canned goods for their local foodbank. Online registration is fast and simple, and fundraising can be done in groups or as individuals. St. Thomas University students can register through the university.

When: Monday, Oct. 31 at 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
The Ville Harvest Party

When: Sunday, Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Maybee’s Halloween Bash
You can spend your Saturday night with friends and fun at Mabyee’s Brewing Company’s first annual Halloween Bash. While it does include the option of a tour through the haunted brew house, other options include participating in a costume contest. Drinks, live music and Milda’s pizza are all included as well, and while a costume is recommended, it is asked that you please leave your masks at home.
Where: Maybee’s Brewing Company, 559 Wilsey Rd.
When: Saturday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. – 1 a.m.
Haunted Hikes
While it may have “haunted” in the title, the Calithumpians theatre troupe offers a fun and lighthearted tour through downtown Fredericton. Meet with the ghosts of Fredericton’s most historic figures, and learn about the stories and legends on a lantern-lit stroll through the city’s most historic sites. Tickets are available at the door of River Valley Crafts, and start at $14 for adults and $9 for children under twelve. It is asked that you pay with cash only.
