The body of a woman discovered along the banks of the St. John River on Sunday belongs to a local missing woman.
Police identified the body as that of 41-year-old Elisabeth (Beth) Ruth Fellows.
She was last seen on Jan. 25 on video surveillance at the Devon Plaza. Police cordoned off an area behind the plaza on Sunday when looking for the body.
A release issued by police on Tuesday says an autopsy is expected to be scheduled and the investigation into the cause of her death is continuing.
In a previous interview, Cst. Rick Mooney of the Fredericton police said the area has been searched in the past in relation to Fellows’ disappearance.
He said a citizen discovered the body while walking nearby and that it has been there for “days or weeks.”
