This afternoon the Fredericton Fire Department responded to a call at McCain Hall at St. Thomas University.

Any potential fire was contained to the roof area, and was quickly under control.  University employees say they were not warned of any danger, and the building was not evacuated.

The roof was being worked on at the time.  We’re being told that some insulation was found smoldering while a university crew was welding, and the fire department was called as a precautionary measure.  Part of the roof was removed to ensure the burning material did not spread anywhere else in the building.

Some fire department officials are still on campus at this time.  Dave Dunbar is telling us at this time that, “Everything is under control.”
