In the longstanding tradition of UNB/STUmen’s ice hockey ‘Battle of the Hill,’ the UNB/STU fencing club is presenting the first ever ‘Duel of the Hill’ as part of the opening ceremonies for the upcoming 2010 UNB Shield, Atlantic University Fencing Championship, and Atlantic Team Fencing Championship tournaments being hosted at UNB, March 12 to 14.
The ‘Duel of the Hill’ event will include high profile duels pitting UNB against STU. Participants are expected from both student unions and university president’s offices. As well, both the Brunswickan and Aquinian sports editors have taken up the challenge, and each will face off against his/her counterpart in a one-on-one fencing bout.
Fredericton Mayor Brad Woodside will also be attending, where he will challenge the highest bidder of an online auction to a duel.
The tournament and opening begin on Friday March 12 at 7 p.m. in the South Gym.
All are welcome, there is no fee for admission, but donations would be appreciated. All proceeds from this event and the online auction will go to support the club’s equipment and maintenance costs as well as the development of new programs like wheelchair fencing.
