Fresh off scoring a goal in the Tommies win over St. FX, Tommies defenseman and captain Felix Poulin reflects on the first half of the season.
Overall, how would you sum up the first half of the season?
I’m not gonna lie, it was hard. We wanted to have better results but we are a young team and I think we learned a lot. We had a lot of injuries and it obviously hurt us.
How much of a relief was it to get that first win of the season?
Man, what a feeling! Against a great team like Moncton it was so good and we felt a lot of weight just drop off our shoulders. In this league, it’s never easy to win on the road, so we are really proud as a team.
What’s impressed you the most about the team in this first half?
The character we have. Going to the rink every day isn’t always easy when you lose a lot of games in a row, but the atmosphere was good and we still helped each other with different aspects of our game and we still believed in ourselves.
What’s been the biggest struggle of the first half?
We did not score enough goals. It’s hard to win games when you average 1 goal per game. We also need to get more shots on net.
What in your estimation, needs to improve in the second half of the season?
We will need to find a way to win. It sounds funny but we need to. We need to follow the game plan and trust in ourselves.
What are the team’s goals for the second half?
We don’t have a specific goal. We just want to get better every day and try to represent our program as best as we can. We wanted to get a home win, which we’ve now done, so it’d be nice to get a few more
