The wait is over. The King Street Ale house is now open, and it’s better looking than ever.
The restaurant has been busy since its opening on Nov. 13 and doesn’t look like it will be slowing down.
Once known as the Garrison District Ale House, the restaurant moved to King Street after a fire last January. The blaze caused the restaurant to close for more than 10 months.
“I was sad [when it burnt down], I really liked it there,” said UNB business student Brittany Thompson.
Thompson was a fan of the Old Garrison, but says she really likes the atmosphere of the bar at its new location.
“It’s a nice social scene for people,” said Thompson.
Located at 546 King St, the new Ale House sits right beside Brewbakers. The large restaurant has a contemporary feel with lowly dimmed lights. There’s a restaurant side and a bar side.
First time customer, Marcus Hallett, thinks it’s one of the nicest places he has seen in Fredericton.
“It’s very elegant,” said Hallett.
The 23-year-old UNB graduate chose the Alehouse for its selection of draught beer.
“There’s 21 different draught beer there…it’s insane.”
Hallett had the Garrison Raspberry Wheat Ale, which is brewed in Halifax, but said he expected it to be better.
“It was just okay… but they do have a lot of choices, more than most restaurants in the city at least.”
His appetizer on the other hand, was more than satisfying.
“I had the Jalapeno Havarti, and they were absolutely delicious,” said Hallett.
The Ale House features many of the same foods from their previous menu at the Garrison, but also some new dishes. They also feature a newly added “smoked” section.
“There was jerk chicken [in the smoked section], pulled pork, smoked ribs, it had lots of variety on there,” said Hallett.
The popularity of the King Street Ale House may have to do with the use of social media. It has it’s own Facebook page and Twitter account. Both are frequently updated and already has over 2,200 likes on Facebook.
“I think it will do well, it’s a better location and has a better layout, and the service is great,” said Hallett.
