Kiss fans must make a decision. Do they want to stay in the Kiss Army, or not? No matter what this band does for them there’s still no way to keep them satisfied.
After close to 40 years of making music, it seems that the rock band Kiss can’t do anything to escape some of their original fans’ criticism.
I am sure that Kiss is not the only band that has to deal with nay-saying fans but the question is, as a musician can you ever escape the constant attempts at downsizing your ego?
This week, there were samples released of each song from Kiss’s upcoming album Monster. The full album will be released this month.
Even with classic guitar riffs and great hooks, the same type that made them huge in the mid-70s, some fans are never satisfied.
A Gallup poll rated Kiss the coolest band in America in 1977. It seemed that there was no stopping these face-painted-party rockers from taking over the world. But around this time they decided to move to a style that was more disco and family oriented, much to the displeasure of the original Kiss fans.
Following this, they decided to record a concept album to prove to the fans and critics that there was more to the band then just partying and having a good time. This also left original fans with a nauseous feeling in their stomachs.
But this has proved Kiss is more than just the blood-spitting, hip-shaking party band that we know them as. They took a risk to see the result. So for their newest album, Monster, they wanted to go back to their roots with a hard knocking, classic rock album.
But judging from the recent threads I have read, it seems that they can’t satisfy the diehards.
The aging front men of Kiss have nothing to prove to anyone. Their true fans are still loyal and love mostly everything they have done since the early 70s. These fans will stick with them until the end.
The Kiss Army should feel lucky and blessed that after 40 drug-free years, Kiss is still able to perform and put in the time and dedication to release new material.
In light of the upcoming album, I hope the rest of the fans are ready and excited to hear 13 new songs from the band that is hard not to love.
