New election process for valedictorian

Alex Nguyen, president of the St. Thomas University Students’ Union, said the union, in collaboration with STU, proposed a new election process for the spring convocation valedictorian nomination and selection.

The proposed changes include creating a selection committee compromised of senior administration, the president and student representatives.

“We want to ensure that the selection process is open and inviting for everyone,” said Nguyen.

Nguyen said the proposed changes would also require a minimum GPA of 3.7 in the last 60 credit hours to enhance a merit-based approach.

If the proposal passes, it will be in effect for the 2023 STUSU Spring General Election.

Once STUSU completely changed the bylaws, this process will be implemented and used for the upcoming graduating class. So the class of 2023 starting this year,” said Nguyen.
