Twitter spam impacting STU accounts

A number of Twitter accounts of St. Thomas University students and at least one account used by the university have been compromised by users clicking on spam messages. The STU students’ union election account was also affected.

The affected accounts are sending direct messages, or private messages, to other accounts.

There are a few variations of the messages. One sent to The Aquinian earlier today from @TommiesSTU, the official STU athletics Twitter account, read: “i cant believe this but there are some real nasty things being said about you here [link removed].”

Clicking on the link causes the spread of the virus. The Aquinian received five messages today from accounts normally trustworthy.

If your account has been impacted Twitter recommends changing your password and revoking third-party access to your account.
