For the next week the Phoenix in the Capital Complex will be closed for a major face lift.

“The Phoenix has been open for about nine years and we’ve had no chance to update it and give it a new look,” said Capital Complex manager Zachary Atkinson.

However Atkinson said they won’t be giving away any surprises until the unofficial reveal date on Jan 23.

The biggest thing is making the room a cozy and fun place to hang out, something Atkinson said has been lost over the years.

“[The Phoenix] has always sort of been a fun lounge where you can go listen to music and things kind of progressed into more of a dance club sort of deal.”

The renovated space will offer more seating and provide more flow from the front of the room to the back, which is where the DJ booth and dance floor currently is. Just like the Wilsers room, which received an overhaul last year, the Phoenix is in need of a little attention.

“After a certain amount of time they get beat up and they need a refresher upgrade. This is a chance to create something more exciting,” said Atkinson.

The idea is to allow more room for events that aren’t always suited for the two otherbars.

“We want to offer different types of events than we would in the Capital or in the Wilsers room.”

Haley Lindsay has been a bartender at the Capital Complex for two years and works primarily out of the Phoenix. She feels that the bar deserves the makeover.

“It needs a face-lift, the last time it was renovated was years ago and part of me sort of felt like it wasn’t the main focus. It needs a lot of TLC, I think it’s a good thing.”

Lindsay says that Phoenix goers will enjoy the new feel that the renovations will bring while Atkinson says the new space will be the perfect place to hang out and grab a drink during the dead of winter.
