Couple #1: Reanne McDowell and MacKenzie Van Hagan.

When did you meet?

5½ months ago.

Where did you two meet?

MacKenzie: In the cafeteria.

How did that first conversation go?

MacKenzie: It was good. Reanne was pretty shy but I was persistent. She also had a boyfriend but I just persisted and eventually I won her heart.

Is that true, Reanne?

Reanne: No. I left my boyfriend because he lived all the way in Halifax four hours away, didn’t like that. And we actually met at the cornboil, not the cafeteria.

Reanne, are you dating MacKenzie because his last name implies he’s a vampire hunter?

Reanne: Yes.

Best quality of the other?

Reanne: He’s funny.

MacKenzie: She’s really stable and strong, and I’m not so much. She’s comforting.

Couple #2: Kailey DeLucry and Alexandre Rice-Hoyt (lives in Saint John).

When did you meet?

How do you cope with Alex living in SJ?

Kailey: It’s honestly not that bad. I got to go to university and do my own thing but still date him. I got to make a bunch of friends. If he went here then I probably would have just gone with him all the time.

What should people like us do to find love for Valentine’s Day?

Kailey: I met Alex in a basement, so check out some basements. Just be very open to the surroundings even if it doesn’t seem like you would find somebody there. You never know.

Couple #3: Kenzie Vey and Natasha Mullins

When did you meet?

Last October.

What should people us do to find love?

Natasha: You (Joseph) should continue wearing those sweaters, and you (Oscar) should continue being so smiley, and I think you two are going to be fine.

Kenzie: Get drunk and knock her up and she won’t ever leave you.

What do you suggest other people out there do to find love?

Natasha: If they are a man they should try the beard thing.

(Joseph: So, you’re telling me I’ll never find love?)

Couple #4: Eris MacDonald-Rahn and Irene Graham

When did you meet?

8 ½ months ago at the Capital.

What is the other’s best quality?

Eris: She’s pretty smart. I’m not that weird to her. She puts up with me.

Irene: He thinks I’m funny, and he also is pretty funny. He makes me laugh.

What do you suggest the people out there do to find love?

Irene: Look for somebody whose weird fits with your weird.

Couple #5: Alex Loggie and Venita Williston

When did you meet?

Started dating a year ago, but have known each other for four years.

Venita: We were friends and then we were just friends who made out all the time.

Any advice for two awkward boys like us looking for love?

Alex: First, you find a girl and you befriend her. Then you wait three years.

What’s the best quality you see in each other?

Venita: He’s smart.

Alex: She draws me stuff … and then sells it. She’ll draw for me and she’ll go ‘Oh, gave you this painting for your birthday’ and then she’ll sell the painting. I’m going to retract that one actually; that’s a pretty shitty quality.

We fear that we’re causing relationship issues with the couples we interview.

Alex: You’re making me realize some tension that I didn’t see before.

Venita: Yeah, maybe there’s nothing I like about Alex.

Alex: Like, stop selling my goddamn paintings, woman. It’s happened two or three times now. Um, she has okay taste in music. I don’t know. She just started listening to Lorde so I’m going to redact that one as well.

True love.
