Exclusive: Meet Jan Wong

Editor Note: On Sept. 20, St. Thomas University officially welcomed Jan Wong, this year’s Irving Chair in Journalism, to campus.

I had the privilege of meeting Ms. Wong last year in Edmonton. This report is made up of tape from her speech and interviews with both Ms. Wong and the Globe and Mail’s Phillip Crawley.

Stay tuned to theAQ for more Jan Wong coverage.

When Jan Wong took the stage at the Canadian University Press conference in

Edmonton on Jan. 15 2010, no one expected her to talk about being fired from the Globe and Mail.

Writing on the Dawson College shooting, her article “Get Under the Desk”caused public outcry in Quebec and attracted attention in the House of Commons. Four years later, she’s finally speaking out about the controversy.
