STUSU releases 2014-15 budget

The STUSU was able to balance their budget next year to prevent running a significant deficit due to low enrolment.

Vice president administration Emily Sheen said she was able to do this by cutting funds in various areas and adding a $6.55 fee increase for both full-time students and $2.95 fee increase for part-time students.

Cuts were made to four staff salaries, academic and charitable assistance, emergency bursaries, Welcome Week, yearbook, SafeRide and various administrative expenses such as conferences and general fees.

Fees will be $137.55 for full-time students and $61.95 for part-time students.

Sheen still expects to run a deficit of $279.32 next year despite cuts. She said next year’s council can make amendments to the budget if they wish.

An additional cut the STUSU could make is their donation to the St. Thomas Food Bank from $1,000 to $500. That cut was not made at this time due to the needs of the food bank.
