STUSU briefs Sept. 29

    Mental health lecture series finalized
STUSU will host two mental-health lectures. First is titled Anxiety 101 on Oct. 20 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Michelle Hale and Darcy Corey will speak about anxiety and Morgan Dickieson will speak about supports available to get mental health help. It will be at the Off-Campus Lounge. The second event will be on Nov. 24 at the same time and same place. Chelsea Wilson will speak about handling stress.

    Budget updated
The $3,500 previously used to produce the yearbook has been redistributed as the yearbook is going to be digital this year. The funds will be used to create a new website, and that budget has been increased by $258.15. The communications co-ordinator will be paid for five extra hours for website work, which will cost $1,353.60. The remaining funds, $1,888.25 were placed in the clubs and societies line.

    Charitable assistance approved
Random Act of Kindness Day event organizers will receive a $250 charitable assistance donation from STUSU. Another $150 was approved for organizers of a Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada walk. This leaves the charitable donation fund at $1,000 for the rest of the year.

    Pride Week loan approved
The Queer and Allied People Society was approved for a loan of $1,182 in order to make down payments for the six days of events the club has planned. Boom! Nightclub may sponsor the events for an amount between $100 and $250. Q&A also received $100 from the president’s office. Residence Life also offered to fund the difference between what STUSU gives and what they needs. Depending on what Boom! Nightclub provides, the amount Q&A is not paying back is between $360 and $510.

    Meeting time changed
STUSU will meet at 6 p.m. every Thursday instead of 5:30 p.m. and will change the location of meetings to a room that is still to be determined on campus.
