Police have found an adult woman’s body on the Northside of Fredericton.

A piece of land near the St. John River, behind a condominium complex and the Devon Plaza on Union Street was cordoned off by police on Sunday.

Cst. Rick Mooney of the Fredericton Police Force said a citizen found the body Sunday while walking near the riverbank. Police responded to the scene around 4:30 p.m. Sunday and as of Monday afternoon, were still on scene investigating.

Mooney said the body has been there for days or weeks but couldn’t say if it’s suspicious.

“We are continuing to attempt to process the scene that’s being compounded with winter conditions.”

The Devon Plaza is the last place where 41-year-old Elizabeth (Beth) Ruth Fellows was seen. She went missing the morning of Jan. 25.

He said the area has been searched in the past in relation to her disappearance, “to the extent possible” because of wintry conditions.

Where the hill slopes downward behind the mall, toward the river bank, a sign is posted on a tree indicating the area  is monitored by video surveillance.
