A university source has confirmed that Jan Wong has joined the staff of St. Thomas University’s journalism programme.

The former Globe and Mail columnist was the school’s Irving Chair in Journalism last year, acting as a resource to students throughout the first semester and giving  workshops and lectures.

As a foreign correspondent for the Globe, she covered the Tiananmen Square massacre, later writing two books about the experience.

She has also gained notoriety for her Lunch with Jan Wong series in the Globe and Mail, where she would go to lunch with notable celebrities and then write about the experience.

There’s no word yet on what Wong will teach or what her exact title will be. She will arrive in September.

The university has yet to formally announce Wong’s hiring.
