The announcement was made to the surprise of their patrons last Wednesday on their Facebook page. There was a flood of support and regret on the page, along with some less supportive posts.

There were some suggestions on how to stay open, including harsh criticism of the change from Sweetwaters to iRock years ago.

STU Alumni Jordan MacDonald is one of the recent graduates who went to the Rockin’ Rodeo before it was renovated into the iRock.

I wasn’t a fan to be honest. For one thing I strongly dislike country. For another, it had a pretty bad reputation in town,” said MacDonald.

Staff at the iRock did not respond to requests for information before deadline.

MacDonald was told the bar was “skeezy” and not the best place to go drinking. It was often said the bar was dirty, and “undesirable” people frequented it.

It didn’t have the greatest reputation when it turned into the iRock, but at least it looked pretty and it didn’t play country music anymore,” said MacDonald.

There were also some concerns about where live entertainment would be playing now that their future dates were compromised.

Matt Marr, a second year at STU, was looking forward to seeing Tristan Horncastle’s show that was planned for December 6, until he saw the announcement.

I was really surprised, but then I realized that well not many were really going there so I could see why business would be bad, and I’m kinda disappointed to see a business close,” said Marr.
