Campus radio station CHSR is bringing back the Fundrive.

A tradition of the station, the Fundrive is a week-long series of events designed to raise money.

“We need to raise funds so we can become more of a communications hub that’s up-to-date,” said station manager Tim Rayne.

The festivities run from March 24 until March 31. A metal concert at The Cellar, featuring Spinesplitter, will serve as an unofficial opening gala.

March 27 is Grindhouse Mayhem. This includes airing the Maritime-made film Hobo With a Shotgun and a question and answer session with Jason Eisener, the film’s director. There will also be a short film, Earwigs, by Bruce Legrow.

“This is kind of a celebration for people in the medium. If it becomes a successful event we can do more of that kind of stuff.”

Another event, Strange Encounters, will be a three-hour radio show on March 30 discussing the paranormal. International paranormal researchers Stanton Friedman, Loren Coleman and more will be special guests. Listeners can donate online through Paypal.

Although Rayne has modest expectations, he remains optimistic.

“Who knows how much we could make online? You get connected to someone internationally, it’s like [online funding platform] Kickstarter. You never know who might tap in and say, ‘You know what, I like these guys. Here’s a couple grand,’ or whatever.

“Eccentric billionaires, listen!”
