The Chief Appeal Officer at St. Thomas is stepping down.

At the students’ representative council meeting on Thursday, Students’ Union President Duncan Gallant announced that Mike Bell was resigning due to time restrictions.

In his resignation letter to Gallant, Bell wrote that his first obligation is to school and his position as student advocate.

He said the last two appeals took up a great deal of time.

“As I’m sure you can appreciate, my responsibilities as student and student advocate come first and I feel they will be compromised if I continue in this position,” Bell said.

This is the first year for an appellate board at STU.

The CAO position usually falls on the chairman of the SRC. If the chairman position becomes vacant, as it did this year, the student advocate takes over.

The position will remain vacant until the next chairman of the SRC is appointed.

Bell’s resignation will take effect after he files his report on the VP Education appeal.
